Cache County Clerk Bryson Behm on Ballots, Early Voting and Drop Boxes
On Thursday, October 15, 2026, Cache County Clerk Bryson Behm joined host Jason Williams on KVNU's For The People to walk Cache Valley voters through what is new this election and the dates that matter before Election Day, Tuesday, November 3.
Williams noted that the Clerk's Office wasted no time: ballots went out as soon as the legal deadline to mail them arrived. Behm said that because Cache County is a fairly large county, the office works with a vendor to have everything scheduled so ballots land in mailboxes right when that deadline hits.
Voters will also see a new question on the back of the ballot envelope. Behm explained that under a new state law, by 2030 voters will need to opt in to receive their ballot by mail or opt out if they prefer to vote in person, and the county wants everyone to have a chance to decide now so no one is caught by surprise.
Key dates and options from the conversation:
Registration: Behm suggested registering by 5 p.m. on Friday, October 23, to have a ballot mailed. After that, voters can use early voting or register and vote in person on Election Day with a provisional envelope, bringing a driver's license and, for anyone who recently moved, proof of residency such as a lease or mortgage statement.
Early voting at Utah State University: Taggart Student Center (Aspen Room), Monday, October 26 through Thursday, October 29, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Early voting at the Cache County Event Center: Tuesday, October 27 through Friday, October 30, noon to 6 p.m. Behm said the hours were changed so voters who work until 5 can still vote early.
Track My Ballot: voters can sign up at trackmyballot.utah.gov for text or email notices when a ballot is mailed, received and counted.
Ballot deadline: the Clerk's Office must have the ballot in hand by 8 p.m. on Election Day. Behm encouraged anyone who has not mailed a ballot by Tuesday, October 27, to use a drop box instead: “Don't trust the post office, trust us.” There is a 24/7 drive-up drop box behind the County Administration Building, and the office collects drop boxes every day.
Signature plus ID number: along with a signature, ballots now need the last four digits of a Social Security number or a driver's license number. Behm called it “a dual-factor authentication for your ballot” that helps confirm a voter when a signature doesn't match cleanly.
Williams added that if a ballot has a problem, the Clerk's Office will reach out by phone or email, and voters have only a short window to fix it, so it's best to answer that contact and fill the ballot out correctly the first time.

Behm is the Republican candidate for re-election as Cache County Clerk on the November 3 ballot.
