Congressman Moore Talks Affordability at Town Hall
On Wednesday, October 7, KVNU's For The People host Jason Williams played audio from a recent town hall where Congressman Blake Moore took a question a lot of Cache Valley families can relate to. The town hall was hosted by the Sutherland Institute.
A man in the audience described the routine so many of us know: go to work, come home, cook, sleep, and do it all again, while prices keep going up. Then he asked, "Do you feel like you guys are doing enough to support the American people?"
Congressman Moore didn't dodge it. "We never do enough," he said. "There's not enough things we can do to solve all the problems." He pointed to gas prices, which he said are over five dollars, as the cost that "hits every single American" and the affordability issue people feel most. He tied the jump to the Iran conflict and the Strait of Hormuz, and said, "We've got to figure out a way to get this under control."
Williams told listeners it's rare to hear an unscripted, sincere answer like that in a campaign year, when the easy move is a safe, predictable reply. He gave Moore credit for choosing to have a real conversation with the constituent instead.
We're grateful for leaders who show up, take hard questions from the people they serve, and answer honestly. Give the segment a listen below.
