On KVNU: Surprises in Utah elections, Cache Valley results
On November 4, 2026, the day after Election Day, host Jason Williams devoted KVNU's For The People Hour 2 to the surprises in Utah's elections, with a long look at how Cache Valley voted.

What Williams covered locally
Williams opened with Cache County's overnight results: Democrat Mark Nafziger defeating County Council Chair Sandi Goodlander in Logan Seat 3, and Democrat Allison Goulais defeating incumbent JoAnn Bennett in Logan Seat 2. He noted that Republicans Mark Hurd and Kathryn Beus held Northeast District 5 and Southeast District 7, that Clerk Bryson Behm won re-election, and that other Republican county officers ran unopposed.
He spent much of the hour on the "complete reversal" in Utah House District 3, where unaffiliated candidate Patrick Belmont defeated Rep. Jason Thompson roughly 60–40 in the valley's most populous district — the opposite of the usual Republican margin in nearby seats. House Majority Leader Casey Snider (HD5) and Rep. Mike Petersen (HD2) won re-election with familiar Republican margins; Sen. Scott Sandall held Senate District 1.
Williams also walked through Constitutional Amendment B, which would have raised the bar to 60% for citizen-led tax initiatives. Statewide it failed decisively. In Cache County, he said the no vote was solid at about 58–42.
Cache GOP's statement on air
Near the end of the hour, Williams read a statement from Cache County Republicans noting that the party retained three of four contested House seats in the area, the state Senate seat, and five of seven Cache County seats, thanking candidates including Rep. Jason Thompson, Council Chair Sandi Goodlander, and Council Member JoAnn Bennett, and saying the party looks forward to working across the aisle to strengthen and support Cache County.
