Highlights from the newsletter

  • Data Center Water Transparency Amendments (H.B. 76, 2026): Rep. Thompson was a cosponsor of this bill, which requires certain large data centers to communicate with water providers and to report their water use before construction and every year after. Sen. Scott Sandall was its Senate sponsor.

  • Great Salt Lake Amendments (H.B. 247, 2026): Rep. Thompson was a cosponsor of this Great Salt Lake bill, which Sen. Scott Sandall also carried in the Senate.

  • Rep. Thompson writes that he has backed protections for the water rights of Cache Valley farmers, voluntary conservation, and Great Salt Lake efforts such as the Watershed Enhancement Trust and the Office of the Great Salt Lake Commissioner.

  • He notes that the Legislature has invested nearly $1 billion in water conservation, infrastructure, agricultural optimization and long-term planning.

Wise water stewardship protects the farms, open spaces and growing neighborhoods that make Cache County home. We are grateful for leaders who keep that work front and center.
