Rep. Jason Thompson's Newsletter: Increasing Transparency in Government
Good government starts with trust. In a newsletter sent October 22, 2026, Rep. Jason Thompson of Utah House District 3 wrote that Utahns deserve a government that is transparent, accountable and worthy of their trust, and that decisions shaping communities for generations must be made through a fair process that respects the public's voice.

Highlights from the newsletter
Box Elder County data center: Rep. Thompson writes that concerns about the Box Elder County data center raised questions about whether Utah's current development authorities meet that standard, and that local officials and residents should have had a meaningful chance to understand the project and weigh its impacts before decisions moved forward.
Reforming MIDA: He says he has an open bill file to reform the Military Installation Development Authority (MIDA), created in 2007 to support Utah's military installations, particularly Hill Air Force Base. His goals are to restore its focus on its core mission, set clearer limits on its authority and strengthen accountability.
Local control and oversight: He also plans to raise questions about tax increment financing (TIFs) and public infrastructure districts (PIDs), including how they affect local control and public oversight.
Growth that earns trust: He writes that economic growth and innovation can bring real benefits, but must be pursued through a process that protects taxpayers and earns public confidence.
Open, accountable government keeps decisions close to the people they affect, from Logan to Box Elder County. We appreciate leaders who make sure residents have a real voice.
